Independent Study Diploma Courses

More than sixty courses are included in this series.

These courses are ideally suited for persons who have completed at least their high school diploma but have been unable to continue their education. (Individuals who enroll without a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent may earn credit toward a Seminary Extension diploma, but completed courses cannot be transferred to other educational institutions).

Diploma courses also provide excellent learning opportunities for lay church members and bivocational ministers who are interested in formal equipping for ministry. Seminary graduates will find these courses helpful as refresher studies. All of the Diploma courses may be taken by independent study or in extension centers. Also other methods, such as Internet and Interactive CD ROMs are available.

Some Diploma courses use a performance-based methodology instead of the normal class-hour format. These courses require a minimum of 30 hours. The hours are divided between in-class learning activities and supervised clinical ministry. A portion of the in-class time is devoted to evaluating the ministry experience. More emphasis is placed on student investigation and exploration than on the memorizing of a set of facts.

ACE and Non-ACE Courses
The American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended college credit for 34 of Seminary Extension’s courses. The American Council on Education, the major coordinating body for all the nation’s higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives. For more information, visit the ACE CREDIT website at http://www.acentnet.edu/acecredit.

Due to cost and lack of demand, Seminary Extension does not seek ACE evaluation or recommendation for all of its courses. All ACE recommended courses currently carry an additional $3.00 per semester hour charge.

Colleges, universities and seminaries may grant credit for courses that are not evaluated or recommended by ACE based on their quality, which is consistent throughout all Seminary Extension course work. Each educational institution has the right to decide what transfer credits are granted.
