Credit Transfer Any time a transcript is sent from one institution to another, the receiving institution has the prerogative of evaluating the transcript to decide whether a course will be accepted and how much credit will be granted. Normally, an institution will transfer only credits with grades of "C" or better. The academic quality of Seminary Extension's courses is validated by endorsements from two nationally recognized educational bodies. The Distance Education and Training Council accredits Seminary Extension at the institutional level, and ACE accredits many of our courses at the course level. For more than 70 years, the Distance Education and Training Council (formerly the National Home Study Council) has been the standard-setting agency for correspondence study and distance education institutions. The Council has progressively raised its standards. Its accrediting program employs procedures similar to those of other recognized educational accrediting agencies. The American Council on Education (ACE) reviewed a number of Seminary Extension's high-activity courses and recommended most of the them as worthy of two or three semester hours of credit on the baccalaureate level. The courses reviewed and recommended by this organization are listed in the diploma course listings on this web site and are noted with the bold statement at the end of the course description. For additional information on courses evaluated by ACE, the organization's current publication, National Guide on Educational Credit for Training Programs, may be consulted. Seminary Extension courses not evaluated by ACE are developed on the same format and maintain the same academic quality. Non-ACE courses transfer as two semester hours of credit. How can I obtain a transcript from Seminary Extension? In order to send an official transcript to a school or to a student, there are some things that must be done:
* An ACE official transcript can be obtained for ACE accredited courses
if necessary. Please contact Seminary Extension for further information. Credit from Other Sources A maximum of eight courses may be accepted from an institution accredited by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) toward a Seminary Extension diploma. Credits from certain non-accredited schools will be evaluated individually and accepted as deemed appropriate by Seminary Extension. For a student working toward a certificate or diploma offered by a participating seminary, a limited amount of parallel work will be accepted. This credit must be received from an institution accredited by a CHEA-affiliated accrediting body. Seminary Extension will evaluate work from educational institutes upon
receipt of an official transcript sent from an institution. This transcript
must bear the institutions seal, the registrars signature,
and the date of issuance. The student should inform Seminary Extension
that the
transcript is coming and indicate the diploma plan to which it is to
apply.
